From Jason Vasquez:

On September 25, 2010, renowned singer and songwriter Eric Himan will headline a live acoustic rock benefit to increase local awareness of The Trevor Project, the leading national organization focused on crisis and suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth.  Proceeds from the benefit will support The Trevor Lifeline, the cornerstone program of The Trevor Project, in addition to other regional and national education outreach programs.

The event will run from 8 p.m.-midnight at The Z Lounge at 1170 22nd Street in NW.

The Trevor Project’s toll-free lifeline, which is accredited by the American Association of Suicidology, is recognized as the leading nationwide, around-the-clock crisis and suicide prevention lifeline for LGBTQ youth.

Two-thirds of callers originate from non-urban areas where resources for LGBTQ people tend to be scarce.  Top problems from young callers include depression, anxiety, relationship issues, questioning sexual orientation, and coming out as LGBTQ to families, friends and peers.  In 2009, lifeline counselors fielded more than 29,000 calls from youth across the country. The announcement of the concert coincides with awareness-building activities during National Suicide Prevention Week, September 5-11.
