South Block Blends will open its doors in Arlington this upcoming summer and offer customers a unique combination of grub: burritos and smoothies. Amir Mostafavi, the owner, said, “South Block Blends will offer “West Coast Style” fresh fruit smoothies.” What is “West Coast Style?” I am from San Diego, and I was even stumped. Mostafavi says, “This means natural ingredients and no sugar or sweeteners added!”

For the last 8 years, Mostafavi has had a store on the George Washington University Campus in Foggy Bottom.  “I love smoothies and I wanted to pair them with another food that people love, burritos! But, I wanted to give the burritos a healthy spin to complement my smoothies,” said Mostafavi. The burritos are kept healthy by using whole-wheat tortillas, brown rice and low-fat cheese.

South Block Blends, which is expected to open in June, will be located at the corner of 11th and Garfield Street in Clarendon. Mostafavi grew up in Northern Virginia, and after he graduated from Virginia Tech he moved to Arlington. He always knew that if he opened up a store off of the GWU campus, it would be in Clarendon. “I think there are a lot of health mined people in Clarendon that will welcome our menu,” said Mostafavi.

South Block Blends will offer quick, on-the-go and healthy burritos, salads, and smoothies. The menu will also include kids options, because having a 3 year-old- himself Mostafavi knows how important it is to cater to the kids in the area. “While Clarendon has some great dining options, most of them carter to the night life crowd,” said Mostafavi. There will be a couple of seats inside and a few inside, as well as a community benches and bike racks out front.
