WHS Pet of the Week: McCoy

WHS Pet of the Week: McCoy

McCoy is a very special boy who is looking for a very special home. He came into the Washington Humane Society (WHS) as a stray. He was severely emaciated, starving and dehydrated, barely able to stand. He went home with a WHS staff member for some much-needed foster care and with the attention of his foster home and WHS's medical director and medical team, he pulled through, gained weight and regained his health. His wounds have healed, he has doubled his body weight and he is doing really well!

Urgent Cat Foster Families Needed

Urgent Cat Foster Families Needed

Thanks to our caring community, we found the foster homes needed and then some for the dogs who were temporarily displaced during a renovation project at our New York Avenue adoption center. We can’t thank our friends and supporters enough for stepping in to help animals in need. In an effort to provide a better environment for all of the animals in our care, major improvement projects continue at our New York Avenue facility, and this time, it is our cats who are looking to their community for help.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The 2012 Tag Challenge calls on technology enthusiasts from several nations to set their sleuthing skills loose on a mock gang of jewel thieves in an international search contest to take place Saturday, March 31.

The social gaming contest will have participants use technological and social resources to locate and photograph five “suspects” in five different cities—Washington, D.C., New York City, London, Stockholm, and Bratislava—based only on a picture and a short description of each one.

The first person to upload pictures of all five suspects to the Tag Challenge website will earn international bragging rights—and a cash prize of $5,000.

Have a little room for us?

Have a little room for us?

As the only open access shelter in Washington, DC, WHS takes in an average of 30 animals every day. The WHS team works around the clock to provide comfort to all of the animals in our care, but our space and resources are limited. Thanks to the hard work and determination of the WHS team, the New York Avenue shelter facility is undergoing major renovations in the coming months to help us provide a better environment for all of our animal residents while they are in our care.

A construction project is currently taking place in the main holding kennel.
