DC Fashion Week Spotlights International Couture

From Feb. 21-27, 2011, D.C. Fashion Week returned to the District to showcase local and national designers’ Fall and Winter Collections. While many designers returned to showcase their newest collections, what made this season’s D.C. Fashion Week so special were the unique events throughout the week. From the kick-off reception at Kellari and the Fashion Networking Industry Party at Tabaq on U Street to the premiere party for the newest season of D.C. Cupcakes where a couture wedding dress was made out of cupcakes for DC Fashion Week.

Childhelp’s Capitol CAREaoke Rocked the Reagan Building to Fight Child Abuse

On Tuesday night, the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center was rockin’, thanks to a host of journalists, politicians, and sports personalities. The room was busting with a who’s who crowd, and they were all there for one common [and very commendable] purpose: to raise money and awareness in support of Childhelp's fight against child abuse and neglect. The event—dubbed CAREaoke—is an annual affair that benefits the organization, and while award-winning journalist Rebecca Cooper (WJLA) was the evening’s hostess, she is also the event’s founder.

Area Students Competed in the Annual Biomedical Competition

It was check-up time for the Patriots on February 7, 2011! The U.S. National Institutes of Health and four of their institutes, National Library of Medicine, NIH Office of Communications and Public Liaison, NIH Office of Science Education, and National Human Genome Research Institute, sponsored the Patriots 2nd Annual Biomedical Competition.  Their goal was to encourage students to further their interest in various medical fields.

We had students from Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC participating in the competition, and 10 medical professionals to serve as judges.  We also had 10 future doctors from Georgetown University Medical Center to give our guests a pre-doctor check up.  Each team was required to present a five-page research paper, brochure, slide show presentation, one-page web site, display board, and an oral presentation on one of the pre-selected medical careers.
