The Community Counseling Services Center at GW’s Graduate School of Education and Human Development (GSEHD) is offering a free, anonymous education and screening program to assist in the public’s knowledge of depression and mental health treatment. As part of this free program, participants will complete a self-screening and have the opportunity to talk privately with a mental health professional.

The program will take place on Thursday, October 6 from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. at GW's Graduate School of Education and Human Development(located at 2134 G St. NW, Washington, D.C.).

National Depression Screening Day is a nationwide outreach, education and screening campaign that includes a one-day special event in October and year-round, online screenings.  The U.S. Preventative Services Task Force recommends depression screening for all adults and, in particular, at-risk individuals with recent loss, stress, vague somatic symptoms, family/personal history of mental illness, chronic illness, and patients who are post-partum. The founding sponsors of National Depression Screening Day are the American Psychiatric Association, Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, McLean Hospital, National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, National Institute of Mental Health and the National Mental Health Association.

The George Washington University’s Community Counseling Services Center (CCSC) is the clinical training facility for the master’s and doctoral students of the counseling programs at GW’s Graduate School of Education and Human Development.  The CCSC both trains student interns to be professional counselors and provides services in the form of individual, couples, family, child and adolescent counseling to the Washington, D.C. community. An additional specialty of the CCSC is career counseling and offers a free six session career counseling package with the choice of three assessments for only $15 each.  The assessments include the Strong Interest Inventory, the Self Directed Search and the Meyers Briggs.
