Mayor Vincent C. Gray and Community Partners Announce New Collaborative Cradle-to-Career Initiative

Gray joined leaders from the government, private, philanthropic and non-profit sectors today in unveiling Raise DC, the District’s comprehensive new cradle-to-career initiative. The effort, which lays out a set of measurable outcomes and targets to ensure that all District youth are career-ready by age 24, joins a national movement of cities working to bring together a cross-sector group of leaders organized around a set of common goals and committed to using data to drive improvements.

Gray Administration Cabinet Members To Sign Ethics Pledge

At their monthly meeting today, members of Mayor Vincent C. Gray’s Cabinet will sign an Ethics Pledge, vowing to uphold the Mayor’s commitment to the highest ethical standards by avoiding conflicts of interest, use of public resources for personal benefit and other violations of the public trust.

“Government employees are public servants and guardians of the public trust,” Mayor Gray said. “This pledge outlines and underscores my administration’s commitment to ethical and conscientious government.”

Mayor Vincent C. Gray announced yesterday that he has appointed former D.C. Auditor and longtime public servant Deborah Nichols to chair the independent D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics (BOEE), completing a three-member panel that carries out the important work of enforcing District election laws andadministrating elections, ballot access and voter registration.

RIFE 2011 - LBGT Films October 22

REEL Independent Film Extravaganza will feature a selection of LGBT films on Saturday October 22 starting at 4PM.

First up are the short narrative film Figure/Ground and the feature length documentary The Sisterhood. Written and directed by Daniel Henry, Figure/Ground is a drama about Jim, a young artist in the South, struggling to make it in tough economic times. Beautifully shot, the film depicts a story of young man representative of what many are now calling “The Lost Generation.”
