The Cribline House Pick of the Week - December 18, 2011

Seasons Greetings Cribline readers:

The Cribline tour began in Kalorama where I picked up my friend and professional photographer Liz Lynch who joined us again this week.

The Cribline House Pick of the Week - December 11, 2011

This week's House Pick of the Week felt a little like a supermarket shopping spree... with a lot to pick from and a small window of time (4 hours) driving around  the city to fit in all of the houses. This week's tour covered Capitol Hill, U Street, Logan Circle, Dupont Circle, and finally Georgetown (and no speeding tickets).

This is a good sign of a healthy Washington, D.C. real estate market... and a nice end to the year in the most thriving market in the country.

GW Report Reveals Layered Risk Increases Potential for Mortgage Defaults

This release comes to us from Jill Sankey:

A new study released by the George Washington University School of Business (GWSB) finds that the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) is at risk and  needs to rethink layering risk  especially to borrowers with poor credit history and high payment burdens. The new report, released by GWSB’s Center for Real Estate and Urban Analysis (CREUA), is the third in its “FHA Assessment Report” series. Coauthored by Robert Van Order, GW professor of finance, and Anthony Yezer, GW professor of economics, the report examines data on mortgage default supplied by different sources, concluding that down payment and equity are not the only things that matter in determining losses.
