Annual Poetry Slam Showcases DC SCORES Student-Athletes

Last night, November 30, DC SCORES held the first part of their annual Poetry Slam at the Columbia Heights Education Campus.

Student athletes from 14 DC SCORES elementary and middle schools took to the stage and put on quite a show.

Each elementary school performed two original group poems and one original individual poem, while teams from the participating middle schools performed one, two, or three songs that grew out of their original poetry.

In the elementary school group, Bancroft took 3rd place, H.D. Cooke took 2nd place, and Perry Street Prep claimed the top prize.  Shaw won first place for the middle schools, and Lincoln was awarded second.

Read a full recap on the night that was on DCSCORE blog.

Take a look at the video above to see one specific performance from the Brightwood Education Campus.

Take a look at the video above, taken Friday night at Colonials Invasions 2011.  It's brilliant, and just might be the greatest mascot dance routine you'll ever see.
